Copies of correspondence, reports, legal documents, printed materials, newspaper clippings, notes, manuscript histories, and related papers compiled by Minnesota Historical Society director Russell W. Fridley from government documents and other published and manuscript sources, giving information on Ojibwe Indian timber land claims, fur traders and explorations in northern Minnesota, and the establishment of the Grand Portage National Monument. Some of the materials may have been compiled for Fridley's "The Story of Grand Portage," which he prepared for the National Park Service in 1963.

Alan R. Woolworth was born August 19, 1924 in Clear Lake, South Dakota. Woolworth was educated at the University of Nebraska and the University of Minnesota.
